Distance: 28km / 17.5miles
Ascent: 2,600m / 8,500ft
The Peris Horseshoe Fell Race is a classic Snowdon race. The Peris starts and finished in Llanberis.
Note, there is a shorter version, the Half Peris, which finishes at Pen y Pass.
Experience is required as this is a tough race. You will need to provide necessary evidence of your experience. Those not fulfilling the criteria will be able to run the Half Peris instead (13.6km/8.5miles, 1,375m/4,500feet).
The start of the race, through the quarry, is marshalled and the runners must follow the designated route.
Note, there is a bad weather shortened route for the Full Peris.
In recent years registration has taken place in the Padarn Lake Hotel Gwynedd. Pre-entry is available and entry on the day is accepted provided race limits have not been reached.
Full kit is mandatory and there is a kit check before the start.
Any of the car parks in Llanberis can be used. Some car parks charge. Probably best to avoid parking at the Hotel to save the space for paying guests.
There is plenty of camping available in the area. My favourite being Camping in Llanberis, Ceunant Street, just past the Youth Hostel and five to ten minutes walk from registration.
Available (see bottom of the post to download). Route file only, not a gps track.
I have now added this years (2012) Peris Race GPS Track (which went a bit wonky over Lliwedd so don't follow that part unless you want to add on a little extra).
Note, this was my race route from 2012. The lines in green show alternative route sections.
